Vinegar is a great choice for several applications including Window Cleaning, Hard water Stains on Glass, Weed Killer and Descaling. See below for a list of recommended percentages and application methods.

General Window Cleaning - (2–5%) - Gentle on glass and frames, often mixed with a few drops of dish soap for better squeegee slip.

Hard Water Stains on Windows - (10%) Use warm solution for better mineral removal. Let sit on glass 2–5 min, then scrub and rinse. Beat stubborn hard-water spots and mineral haze fast. This ultra-concentrated 25% Cleaning Vinegar dissolves calcium, lime, and silica deposits so glass looks clear and streak-free again. Use as a concentrate to make powerful, economical working solutions for routine cleanups or heavy scale.

  • Cuts mineral scale: Attacks calcium/lime buildup where regular glass cleaner fails.
  • Fast & effective: Softens deposits in minutes; wipe and rinse away.
  • Cost-saver: Dilute to task—one bottle makes multiple bottles of cleaner.

Weed Killer - (20–25%) - Apply in full sun, avoid overspray on desirable plants. Wear PPE. Much better choice than using toxic products like Round-Up.

How Quickly Vinegar Works as a Weed Killer

When you're using vinegar, especially a stronger concentration, you can usually see visible results pretty quickly—often within a few hours to a day. The weeds will start to wilt and brown on the leaves that you've sprayed. It’s basically a contact herbicide, so it burns the foliage you touch with it. However, vinegar usually doesn't kill the roots, especially for tougher or perennial weeds, so you might need to reapply it if they come back.

Comparing to Roundup

Roundup (which is glyphosate-based) works a bit differently. It’s a systemic herbicide, meaning it’s absorbed through the leaves and then travels down to the roots to kill the whole plant. That process can take a few days to fully see the results—typically you'll notice the plant yellowing within two to four days and then dying off completely in about a week or so. It's generally more thorough for permanent removal because it kills the root system, but it's also a synthetic chemical, which some people prefer to avoid.

Descaling (Pressure Washer Coils, Equipment) - (5–10%) - Circulate through system for 15–60 min, then flush thoroughly with clean water.

Dilutions for Glass (from 25% concentrate)

  • Light spotting / maintenance: 2.5%1:9 (1 part vinegar to 9 parts water)
  • Recommended start: 5%1:4
  • Stubborn scale (short dwell): 10%2:3

Compatible / Cautions

  • Safe To Use on Plain (uncoated) glass, most window/mirror surfaces.
  • Use caution / Avoid contact: Aluminum & galvanized metals, natural stone (marble/limestone), cement/grout, wood finishes, rubber gaskets—rinse immediately if contacted.
  • Coated/Low-E glass: Test a small corner first and avoid abrasives.

Safety

Corrosive concentrate. Wear gloves and eye protection. Do not mix with bleach or ammonia. Keep out of reach of children. Store tightly closed in a cool, dry place.
