Sodium Metasilicate is a strong alkaline cleaner widely used in professional cleaning, restoration, and industrial maintenance because of its degreasing, stain-removing, and surface-prepping abilities.
Mixing Instructions
- Dissolve in warm water to help it fully dissolve.
Dilution for wood cleaning:
- Light cleaning: 2–3 oz per gallon of water. 175-225 sq ft per gallon
- Medium duty cleaning: 4-6 oz per gallon of water. 125-175 sq ft per gallon
- Heavy-duty cleaning: 7–8 oz per gallon of water. 100-125 sq ft per gallon
- Mix in a plastic bucket or sprayer.
Application
Pre-wet the wood
-
Lightly spray the wood with clean water to prevent the cleaner from soaking in too fast.
- Apply the solution
- Let it sit for 5–10 minutes for light soil, or up to 15 minutes for heavy buildup.
-
Keep the surface wet with the solution during this time — don’t let it dry out.
Rinsing
- Rinse thoroughly with a low to medium pressure stream (no more than ~800 PSI for softwoods) to avoid damaging the grain.
- Make sure all residue is removed, as leftover alkalinity can cause discolouration or interfere with sealers.
Neutralizing (Optional but Recommended)
- After cleaning, especially before staining or sealing, use a mild acidic neutralizer like Oxalic Acid to bring the pH back to neutral.
Tips for Best Results
- Avoid cleaning in direct hot sun — solution may dry too quickly and cause streaks
-
Work in manageable sections to keep dwell time consistent.
-
Keep away from aluminum and glass — may cause etching.
- Store any unused Sodium Metasilicate in a sealed, moisture-proof container
Dilution for Concrete cleaning:

- Extreme Mix use 12oz per gallon of water ( 2 jars/ 5 Gallon)
- Mix in a plastic bucket or sprayer.
